Early Childhood Teaching Endorsement

A student is expected to complete the endorsement within seven years of beginning graduate study at Doane University. Credits taken in the early childhood education degree program which were completed more than seven years before completion are reviewed by the Dean or Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The criteria for accepting or rejecting these credits as a part of the student’s program are always based on the relevance of the material at the time of review.

Physical and Health Education

All secondary and K-12 education students earn a content major in their endorsement area.

Students seeking certification for teaching in Physical Education must complete the Physical Education Major requirements and the classes listed under the catalog section for Secondary Education. A second teaching major or endorsement is required when majoring in Physical Education.

Special Education

A special education degree program helps prepare you for teaching children and youth with mild or moderate mental handicaps, learning disabilities, or behavioral disorders. Teachers graduating from this special education program have certification for teaching kindergarten through 12th grade.

Students may obtain certification in both elementary education and special education. A coaching endorsement may also be added to the teaching majors.

Elementary Education

To become a successful elementary school teacher and shape the future of our youth, you need the support of a valuable elementary education program.

Doane’s elementary education program prepares students to teach kindergarten through eighth-grade. A range of field experiences in your sophomore and junior years will help you decide which grade level you would most like to teach.

Educational Leadership

Quality educational leadership is imperative to the success of our schools and our students. In fact, studies have shown that effective leadership is second only to quality teaching in terms of improving student achievement. If you aspire to become a strong and effective leader in education, Creighton University’s online Master of Science in Educational Leadership is for you.

Creighton offers guaranteed scholarships to all educators to help support and encourage teachers to continue to their education in leadership. See the tuition and fees section below for more details.

School Counseling

This master's program is designed to equip students to become school counselors who lead, advocate and collaborate to promote equity and access for all students. In addition to intellectual understanding, the student will develop proficiency and competence in specific skills of this helping profession. This program encourages emerging skills in trauma-informed practice, transformative leadership, and cultural competence.

Education-Elementary School Teaching
