Educational Studies Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.)

Our Ph.D. program is invested in preparing researchers and educational leaders to serve and work in a variety of professional positions, including universities, private industry, non-profit organizations, research agencies, policy agencies, and school systems. Educational Studies Doctor of Education (Ed.D.)

This program is designed for working educators (with a completed Master’s degree). The Ed.D. is completed in as few as three years (with the average being 4 years). The program supports ten to twenty highly motivated educators who come from a variety of backgrounds, including pre-K–12 schooling, teacher education, professional development positions, higher education, teacher-leadership, and advocacy roles, and community education programs.

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages

Are you interested in teaching English as a second language to children and adults internationally or within your own community? Apply to the graduate certificate program in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) to learn instructional strategies for teaching English, deepen your knowledge of how languages are acquired, explore English linguistics, develop a professional identity as a language teacher, and engage in conversations around important issues in TESOL.

Mathematics Education

The Graduate Certificate in Mathematics Education is offered in the Department of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education and is a 15-hour certificate program attends to preparing leaders in mathematics education by providing continued professional development education to teachers of mathematics (PK-16) with more focused attention on mathematics pedagogical content knowledge in grades 4-16.

K-3 Mathematics Specialist

This certificate is intended for elementary teachers who are interested in further developing their instructional strategies and mathematics content knowledge to meet the needs of each and every student in their classrooms.

All courses are taught on the University of Nebraska-Lincoln campus, online, or at sites mutually agreed upon by the Departments of Teaching, Learning, and Teacher Education and Mathematics.

Elementary Education

The elementary education major is designed for students seeking Nebraska certification to teach in K-6 elementary schools. This major allows students to explore developmental issues of children, learning theory, elementary school content, and teaching methods. One of the strengths of the preparation program is the field experiences with local school districts.
