Reading Specialist (PK-12)

Persons with this endorsement may teach, provide leadership for professional development in the area of reading, and assess and interpret data to determine and implement instructional options for teaching students in prekindergarten through grade 12. This endorsement requires a minimum of 30 graduate semester hours in reading and related courses.

In addition, this endorsement requires clinical experiences appropriate for the endorsement level. Courses will cover the following

Educational Specialist Ed.S.

The fully-online Educational Specialist (Ed.S.) degree is a post-master's program in which candidates attain a broad and systematic understanding of professional education, knowledge of a particular field of specialization, and an ability to apply theoretical concepts of education in an actual educational context.

This program is designed for the experienced practitioner who holds a master's degree and administrative certificate and wishes to complete the requirements for a superintendent's certificate from area states.

Educational Leadership

The Master of Science (M.S.) in Educational Leadership degree is a fully-online graduate program. Candidates attain professional certification in administration and gain knowledge and skills in school leadership. This program is designed for the educator who holds a teaching certificate from area states and wishes to complete the requirements for a principal or special education supervisor certificate.

Accelerated Special Education Program

The Accelerated Special Education Program (AC-SEP) at UNO is a teacher certification pathway for individuals with a baccalaureate degree or higher who wish to earn an Initial Teaching Certificate issued by the Nebraska Department of Education to teach special education.

This program is designed to be completed in two years. Students who successfully complete the qualifications of the Accelerated Special Education Program will be eligible for Nebraska certification in special education.

Speech-Language Pathology

peech-language pathology is a diverse field serving clients across the lifespan. Speech-language Pathologists evaluate and treat people with speech, language, cognitive communication, social communication, and swallowing difficulties.

Speech-language pathologist work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities, and private practice.

Dyslexia Specialist Certificate

his specialty certificate is open to any student with a bachelor's degree that is seeking additional expertise in Dyslexia.

Special Education

UNO's Special Education and Communication Disorders department has online graduate programs designed to prepare educators to work with and advocate for students with a wide range of disabilities and challenges. Specifically, our programs focus on high-incidence disabilities such as learning disabilities (dyslexia) and behavioral and emotional disorders.

School Counseling

The 48-credit MS degree with a concentration in School Counseling includes the coursework and field experiences (practicum/internships) required for certification as a School Counselor in Nebraska.

Don’t have a teaching certificate?

Nebraska also provides a path to an endorsement as a school counselor without a teaching certificate through the Teaching Program Alternative Permit. An advisor will work with alternative permit applicants to ensure you complete the appropriate courses to meet this requirement.
