Occupational Therapy

Occupational therapists help patients develop, regain and improve the skills they need to take part in daily activities and function more effectively in home, work and social activities. They work with individuals, small groups and large organizations in schools, businesses, hospitals and a variety of social and behavioral health settings. Occupational therapists enable people of all ages to live life to its fullest by helping them promote health, and prevent—or live better with—injury, illness, or disability.

Speech Language Pathology

Graduate candidates wanting to pursue a career in speech-language pathology can apply to UNO’s CAA accredited Master of Science program.

Speech-language pathology is a diverse field serving clients across the lifespan. Speech-language Pathologists evaluate and treat people with speech, language, cognitive communication, social communication, and swallowing difficulties.

Speech-language pathologist work in a variety of settings including schools, hospitals, rehabilitation, skilled nursing facilities, and private practice.

Pre-Physical Therapy

The Kinesiology program is designed to prepare students to assume positions as fitness or health promotion directors and exercise consultants in private or public agencies, health centers, cardiac rehabilitation programs, as well as corporate fitness programs.

Physical Therapy

Our Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) programs in Omaha and Phoenix offer an integrated curriculum to help students develop professional and clinical skills, as well as opportunities to support patients in underserved populations. We established the United States’ first entry-level Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree at our Omaha campus in 1992. Today, you’ll find two unique physical therapy programs—in Omaha and Phoenix—that offer an integrated curriculum and technologically advanced lab and classroom spaces.

As an occupational therapist, you will be able to help patients develop and maintain vital living and working skills. Occupational therapists evaluate physical and mental abilities, track progress and design therapy programs.

Reading Specialist (PK-12)

Persons with this endorsement may teach, provide leadership for professional development in the area of reading, and assess and interpret data to determine and implement instructional options for teaching students in prekindergarten through grade 12. This endorsement requires a minimum of 30 graduate semester hours in reading and related courses.

Accelerated Special Education Program

The Accelerated Special Education Program (AC-SEP) at UNO is a teacher certification pathway for individuals with a baccalaureate degree or higher who wish to earn an Initial Teaching Certificate issued by the Nebraska Department of Education to teach special education.

This program is designed to be completed in two years. Students who successfully complete the qualifications of the Accelerated Special Education Program will be eligible for Nebraska certification in special education.
