Elementary Education

Hastings College is fully accredited and offers degrees in Elementary Education, Secondary Education and Special Education, as well as a Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree. Add in 20 endorsement areas, from art to world language and physical education to music, and you’ll have a solid resume focused on areas you love.

Physical and Health Education

All secondary and K-12 education students earn a content major in their endorsement area.

Students seeking certification for teaching in Physical Education must complete the Physical Education Major requirements and the classes listed under the catalog section for Secondary Education. A second teaching major or endorsement is required when majoring in Physical Education.

Special Education

A special education degree program helps prepare you for teaching children and youth with mild or moderate mental handicaps, learning disabilities, or behavioral disorders. Teachers graduating from this special education program have certification for teaching kindergarten through 12th grade.

Students may obtain certification in both elementary education and special education. A coaching endorsement may also be added to the teaching majors.

English As A Second Language (7-12)

Persons with this endorsement may teach English as a Second Language (ESL) in the grade levels for which they are prepared.

Certification Endorsement Requirements: This endorsement requires a minimum of 15 semester hours of course work in the following topics: Second Language Acquisition, English Language/Linguistics, Cross-Cultural Communication, Methods/Curriculum Design in English as a Second Language, and Assessment and Evaluation of English Language Learners (ELL).

Elementary Education

Doane’s elementary education program prepares students to teach kindergarten through eighth-grade. A range of field experiences in your sophomore and junior years will help you decide which grade level you would most like to teach.

BS - Elementary Education Degree

Creighton’s elementary education program provides undergraduates with the valuable academic knowledge and practical skills that they will need to be an effective classroom teacher in grades Kindergarten through 8. Our program integrates Jesuit charisms, instructional technology, cultural understanding, and field-based experiences. If you are interested in teaching in the early grades, you may add the early childhood certificate to your BS in elementary education.

B.S.Ed. - Elementary Education (K-8)

This program covers special instructional methods in science, health, reading, mathematics, social studies, language arts, student and program assessment (tests and measurements), curriculum, guidance, English language learners, multicultural and human relations, classroom management, special education, and other pertinent professional topics and issues.
