Elementary Education Degree

Creighton’s elementary education program provides undergraduates with the valuable academic knowledge and practical skills that they will need to be an effective classroom teacher in grades Kindergarten through 8. Our program integrates Jesuit charisms, instructional technology, cultural understanding, and field-based experiences. If you are interested in teaching in the early grades, you may add the early childhood certificate to your BS in elementary education.

Bachelor of Science – Education – Field Endorsement in Elementary Education (Grades K-8)

This program covers special instructional methods in science, health, reading, mathematics, social studies, language arts, student and program assessment (tests and measurements), curriculum, guidance, English language learners, multicultural and human relations, classroom management, special education, and other pertinent professional topics and issues.

Secondary Education

The secondary education (7-12) major is for students who want to teach at the middle or high school level.

In our program, you will be known, you will be seen, and you will be cared for by exemplary faculty whose goal is to prepare you to teach all students well.

Upon completion, you will be recommended for teacher certification from the Nebraska Department of Education to teach in one of six content areas.

Special Education (7th – 12th)

Schools are experiencing a shortage of special education teachers, especially at the secondary level. By completing this Bachelor of Science degree with an endorsement in special education (7-12), you will participate in a variety of field experiences that will allow you to practice the skills you learn in the classroom and be ready to make a difference in the lives of secondary students with disabilities.

Special Education (K – 6th)

Schools are experiencing a shortage of special education teachers at all academic levels. By completing this Bachelor of Science degree with an endorsement in special education (K-6), you will participate in a variety of field experiences that will allow you to practice the skills you learn in the classroom and be ready to make a difference in the lives of elementary students with disabilities.

Inclusive Early Childhood Education (Birth – 3rd)

The inclusive early childhood education program is based on an inclusive, family-focused style of working with young children across a range of abilities and disabilities, and on collaboration and teamwork. You will gain a view of the field that integrates education, prevention and intervention services. The program prepares you to teach infants, toddlers and children from birth through grade 3, including those with disabilities and support families and other personnel with responsibilities for their care and education.

Family and Consumer Sciences Occupational (6th – 12th)

The Family and Consumer Sciences Occupational (6 - 12) option is ideal for students who have a strong desire to teach and advance skill sets needed in daily life, such as human development and family studies; early childhood education; nutrition and food science; hospitality, restaurant and tourism management; textiles, merchandising and fashion design; and housing and interior design, among others. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be recommended for a secondary occupational certification in Family & Consumer Sciences education to teach grades 6-12.

Elementary Education and Special Education (K – 6th)

Schools are experiencing a shortage of teachers, and the demand for teachers with certification in both elementary education and special education is high. With a Bachelor of Science with a dual endorsement in elementary education and special education (K-6), you will develop the necessary skills that will make you a sought-after teacher by principals looking to hire highly qualified educators who will impact young students.

Elementary and Early Childhood Education (Pre-K – 6th)

The elementary education (K-6) builds meaningful learning experiences in elementary education learning environments. In our program, you will engage in five field experiences in elementary schools and a student teaching semester. Upon completion of the program, you will be recommended for teacher certification from the Nebraska Department of Education. We prepare outstanding elementary teachers who teach all children in literacy & language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and integrated arts and technology.
