Health and Physical Education

Admission into the Education Department and additional education departmental coursework is required. This major is designed to prepare students for the teaching profession in Health and Physical Education. With the addition of approximately 37 hours of education requirements, the student will be eligible for a Nebraska Teaching Certificate.

Curriculum and Instruction

The Masters in Education (M.Ed.) program is committed to giving special attention to the needs of K-12 educators. Doane launched its Master of Education in Curriculum and Instruction program more than 40 years ago, based on input from teachers and school districts. We continuously advance the program, and include the same crucial input.

Special Education

A special education degree student is expected to complete the endorsement within seven years of beginning graduate study at Doane University. Credits taken in the program that were completed more than seven years before completion are reviewed by the Dean or Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The criteria for accepting or rejecting these credits as a part of the student’s program are always based on the relevance of the material at the time of review.

Reading Specialist Certification

A student is expected to complete the endorsement within seven years of beginning graduate study at Doane University. Credits taken in this online reading specialist certification program which were completed more than seven years prior to completion are reviewed by the Dean or Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The criteria for accepting or rejecting these credits as a part of the student’s program are always based on the relevance of the material at the time of review.

Reading and Writing Program

A reading and writing online program student is expected to complete the endorsement within seven years of beginning graduate study at Doane University. Credits taken in the program that were completed more than seven years before completion are reviewed by the Dean or Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The criteria for accepting or rejecting these credits as a part of the student’s program are always based on the relevance of the material at the time of review.

English As A Second Language

A student is expected to complete the endorsement within seven years of beginning graduate study at Doane University. Credits taken in the program which were completed more than seven years prior to completion are reviewed by the Dean or Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The criteria for accepting or rejecting these credits as a part of the student’s program are always based on the relevance of the material at the time of review. If the course material is no longer relevant, the student must then retake the appropriate graduate course(s) as part of the endorsement requirements.

Early Childhood Teaching Endorsement

A student is expected to complete the endorsement within seven years of beginning graduate study at Doane University. Credits taken in the early childhood education degree program which were completed more than seven years before completion are reviewed by the Dean or Director of Curriculum and Instruction. The criteria for accepting or rejecting these credits as a part of the student’s program are always based on the relevance of the material at the time of review.

Early Childhood Education – In Home Care Provider

You can have a meaningful impact on the future through your work with young children. In our Early Childhood Education – In Home Care Provider Certificate program you will learn observation, assessment, and guidance strategies with specific focus on the development of children. Students complete a practicum and will learn specific skills necessary for working in an in-home setting.

Early Childhood Education - Preschool

You can have a meaningful impact on the future through your work with young children. In our Early Childhood Education – Preschool certificate program, you will learn observation, assessment, and guidance strategies with specific focus on the development of children from ages 3 to 5 years. Students will complete a practicum and learn about literacy, safety, nutrition, and family relationships.
